Mumbai-based mid-market investment banking firm o3 Capital Global Advisory Pvt. Ltd has appointed investment banker Anjani Kumar as managing director. This is the firm’s first external appointment for the position in five years.

Prior to Kumar, investment banker Devyani Khanvilkar served as o3 Capital's MD for six months between September 2013 and March 2014.

Kumar’s appointment is a part of the banking firm’s plans to expand its corporate finance expertise, the company said in a statement. At o3, Kumar will drive cross-border and M&A initiatives, along with front-leading large corporate relationships for the firm.

With two decades of experience in banking under his belt, Kumar most recently founded Asialink Advisors, which offers services in cross-border mergers and acquisitions (M&A), fundraise, debt restructuring, and strategic advisory.

Previously, he was managing director and head of investment banking at Malaysian bank CIMB’s India unit. He has also worked at Royal Bank of Scotland in various roles such as head of corporate finance and M&A in India, and executive director of UK M&A advisory.

Kumar has also worked in senior roles at ABN AMRO and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

o3 Capital operates two core businesses – corporate finance and alternate asset management. The company's other managing directors are Shiraz Bugwadia, Deepesh Garg, Shyam Shenthar, and Srinivas Tekal, who founded the firm in 2007, its website shows.

This year, o3 advised on transactions such as the stake sale in GGK Technologies Pvt Ltd; QuEST Global’s acquisition of Exilant Technologies; Ascent Meditech’s fund raise from Leapfrog Investments; Corner Store Technologies’ fund raise from SAIF Partners, Nexus Ventures and IL&FS private equity, among others.
