Barclays Capital India, the investment banking division of Barclays Bank Plc., has appointed Bhuvnesh Singh as head of equity research and Neel Shahani as head of equity sales trading, according to a company statement.
Singh will be based out of Mumbai and will be responsible for establishing and developing Barclays Capital’s Indian equity research business. He will report to Stephen O’Sullivan, head of equity research for Asia ex-Japan.
Bhuvnesh Singh joins Barclays Capital from Credit Suisse where he has spent over 12 years and has recently become regional head of infrastructure and capital goods & co-head of global IT services in equity research. Singh was also associated with JM Morgan Stanley and was ranked No. 1 for India IT services in the 2010 Greenwich Survey.
“India is central to our overall plans for the Asia-Pacific equity research platform and Singh’s proven track record of success will be key to offering our clients a differentiated, top-ranked equity research product,” commented Stephen O’Sullivan on Singh’s appointment.
Neel Shahani will be responsible for establishing and managing Barclays Capital’s execution and sales trader team in India and also growing its market presence. Shahani will report to Jeremy Norris, head of equity sales trading (Asia-Pacific), and Bhavtosh Vajpayee, head of equities, India.
Shahani will join Barclays Capital from IIFL where he was head of sales trading and managed a team of sales traders covering global markets. Shahani has 18 years of relevant experience and has previously worked with CLSA, HSBC and JM Financial.
