VCCEdge has released its Quarterly Deal Update for Q1 2011 (January 2011 to March 2011).
Highlights -
Private Equity
- First quarter of 2011 saw Private Equity investments to the tune of $2.59 billion coming from 99 deals, an increase of over 38% from the $1.85 billion recorded in Q1 2010.
- The median deal amount increased 10% from $10 million in Q1 2010 to $11 million.
- The average deal value increased 33% from $24 million to $32 million during the same period.
- Private Equity deals under $50 million accounted for 72.7% of total deal volume in Q1 2011.
- Big-ticket deals ($100 million and above) constituted 54.2% of the total private equity capital invested during the quarter.
- Compared to the 39 deals with total exit value of $982 million in Q1 2010; exits by Private Equity investors were rather sluggish with just 30 deals recorded during the quarter aggregating to $861 million.
Mergers & Acquisitions
- M&A activity for the quarter is pegged at $19.61 billion, nearly as much as the $19.64 billion seen during the same period last year. However, in terms of deal volume, the count dipped to 184 deals from the 194 deals in Q1 2010.
- The value of inbound deals surged significantly from $962 million and $1,628 million in Q1 2009 and Q1 2010 to $14.53 billion in Q1 2011.
- The median deal amount decreased from $21 million to $9 million and average deal value went up by 22% from $169 million to $206 million as compared to Q1 2010.
- Deals under $100 million accounted for 40% of the total deal flow in Q1 2011.
