Highlights
Private Equity
-Total private equity investment in October 2010 declined 27% to $326 million as against $447 million in October 2009.
-The first ten months of 2010 have seen private equity deal value at $7.57 billion as compared to $4.4 billion in the whole of 2009 and $13.6 billion in 2008.
-The median deal amount and the average value of private equity deals in October2010 was $10 million and $14 million respectively.
-Financials, Industrials, and Utilities continued to attract significant PE investments, receiving capital to the tune of $90 million, $82 million and $72 million respectively.
-Private Equity backed exits for the month were recorded at $299 million across 15 deals, 10 of which were through open market.
-M&A value in India in October 2010 was recorded at $1 billion, up from $650 million seen in October 2009.
-The number of domestic deals decreased from 22 in October 2009 to 17 in October 2010, while the value of domestic deals increased significantly from $192 million to $518 million.
-The value of outbound M&A deals increased from $150 million in October 2009 to $389 million in October 2010, while that of inbound deals came down from $284 million to $74 million during the same period.
-In terms of deal count, October 2010 saw outbound deals doubling to 22 deals from the 11 deals seen in October 2009, and inbound deals moving up from 7 to 10 deals.
-Financials, Healthcare, and Consumer Discretionary witnessed the largest M&A activity with deals worth $369 million, $265 million, and $158 million respectively.
