VCCEdge has released its Monthly Deal Update for August 2011.
Highlights -
Private Equity:
- Private Equity investments in August 2011 witnessed a sharp decline of 58% recording $551 million across 42 deals as compared to August 2010.
- Growth capital/late stage investments turned down 63% from $1.26 billion in Aug’ 10 to $461 million in Aug’ 11.
- The average deal amount dropped from $40 million to $16 million compared to August 2010.
- The median deal amount declined about 50% from $10 million in August 2010 to $5 million in 2011.
- Private equity deals under $50 million accounted for 79% of total deal volume.
- Big-ticket deals ($100m and above) accounted for 33% of the total capital invested during the month.
- Private Equity Exits in terms of exit value increased 13% and deal volume dipped by over 61% as compared to August last year.
Mergers & Acquisitions:
- M&A deal value dipped from $12.69 billion in August 2010 to $2.64 billion this month.
- Compared to the same period last year, deal values dipped by a significant 94% and 75% across inbound and outbound deals respectively.
- The Median deal size almost doubled from $15 million to $32 million.
- The average deal size reduced 4x from $373 million to $95 million during the same period.
- Deals under $50 million accounted for 23% of total deal volume in August 2011.
- Big ticket deals ($100 million and above) continued their dominance accounting for 77% of the total disclosed M&A deal value in the month.
