VCCEdge has released its Monthly Deal Update for April 2011.
Highlights -
Private Equity:
- Private Equity investments in April 2011 are pegged at $810 million coming from 44 deals.
- Growth capital/private equity deals were a notch higher at 32 as against 30 in April last year.
- The median deal amount decreased by 35% compared to April 2010.
- The average deal value too declined between the two years; down 18% from $28 million to $23 million.
- Private equity deals under $50 million accounted for nearly 68% of the total deal volume in April 2011, and 42.98% of the total capital invested.
- Exits by private equity investors dipped significantly with only $44 million of capital being realized across 9 exit transactions.
Mergers & Acquisitions:
- M&A deal value declined from $9.49 billion in March 2011 to $2.9 billion this month.
- Outbound deals accounted for 62% of the total deal value during the month, with another 23.7% accounted for by Inbound deals.
- The median deal size increased 2.15x from $13 million in April 2010 to $28 million in April 2011.
- The average deal size increased 4% from $78 million to $81 million.
- Deals under $50 million accounted for 30.67% of total deal volume in April 2011, with big ticket deals ($100 million and above) accounting for another 14.67%.
- Big ticket deals ($100 million and above) continued their dominance accounting for 85.72% of the total disclosed M&A deal value in the month.
