US-based law firm Goodwin Procter LLP has opened its Asia office in Hong Kong and it plans to focus on it’s expertise in private equity, venture capital, technology companies and fund formation. The Boston-based Goodwin Proctor also has an office in Silicon Valley. The move comes as Goodwin Procter has just poached a group of top venture capital partners Silicon Valley’s law firm Wilson Sonsini. Some of the clients these lawyers Wilson Sonsini are Mayfeild and Sequoia, both of whom have a significant India practice.
The firms Hong Kong office is being launched by its partners Yash Rana and Brian McDaniel, who represent private equity and venture capital clients that are forming funds and investing in Asian companies, especially in China and India.
Rana is a partner in Goodwin Procter’s PE group, and has a broad-based transactional practice, with particular emphasis on mergers and acquisitions and private equity. He also has experience in
cross-border deals. McDaniel specializes in the formation and operation of private equity and venture capital funds investing in China, India and other Asian countries.
“An Asian presence is an integral part our strategic growth. Our strategy is driven by client needs and market demand,” said Regina M. Pisa, chairman and managing partner of Goodwin Procter. “This global team will initially focus on our clients who are investing in India, China and other Asian centers of commerce,” added Pisa.
