Speciality chemicals firm Dorf Ketal acquires Filtra Catalysts

Mumbai-based specialty chemicals maker Dorf Ketal Chemicals India Pvt Ltd has acquired Thane-headquartered Filtra Catalysts & Chemicals Ltd for an undisclosed amount, according to a press release.

The acquisition will expand earnings of Dorf Ketal through increased share of catalyst and specialty process chemical spend in the refining and petrochemical markets. Additionally, it will help Dorf Ketal explore opportunities in the fertiliser market.

"Fitra supplies to customers in the petrochemical and refinery sector and offers potential for synergies as our product range complements each other. At Dorf Ketal, we see opportunities to sell these products across the globe through subsidiaries and distribution network," said Sudhir Menon, chairman and managing director of Dorf Ketal.

The company will combine Filtra's adsorbents and catalyst products with its product offering and increase Filtra's geographic footprint to Asia Pacific, China, Europe and the Americas.

With sales of $11 million, Filtra is a specialty chemicals firm with over 200 employees in research, manufacturing, sales and administrative facilities operating out of different locations in India.

The company’s products are used in the electrical, fertilizer, petrochemical and refinery, steel industries, as per its website.

On the other side, Dorf Ketal is a producer of organometallic titanates, a chemical used in deep sea drilling to extract crude oil. It offers process additives to the downstream hydrocarbon industry and Filtra’s acquisition is seen as strategic fit to enhance its offerings.

Avendus Capital advised Filtra for the transaction.
