New Delhi-based boutique law firm Gravitas Legal has merged its practice with Mumbai-based peer Kay Legal & Associates LLP.
Founded in 2016 by Tanuj Sud, Sujeet Das and Varij Sharma, Gravitas Legal advises clients on banking & finance and real-estate transactions besides providing corporate advisory services. Amit Karkhanis-founded Kay Legal & Associates provides advisory to firms in medico-legal, intellectual property rights (IPR) and litigation segments.
“Widening our presence to Mumbai was a natural step in our evolution given the nature of our practice and the sectors we are active in. At the same time, being located in Delhi, which is considered a key litigation hub, we wanted to optimise our litigation capabilities as we have been witnessing an increasing demand,” said Sud in a statement.
“Amit adds a vintage angle to Gravitas Legal’s young and fast-growing practice and with pooled synergies, the firm is closer to achieving its vision,” said Bithika Anand, founder and CEO of Legal League Consulting which advised the firms for the merger.
Once the merger is completed, Gravitas Legal will have four partners and 21 lawyers in New Delhi and Mumbai.
This is the second merger between law firms within a week. Recently, Mumbai-based IC Legal Advocates & Solicitors and Bangalore-headquartered Universal Legal Attorneys at Law decided to merge their practices to create IC Universal Legal Advocates & Solicitors. The merged entity has 15 partners and over 100 lawyers in seven locations.
Besides, Media law firm Khimani & Associates merged with IPR law firm Anand and Anand recently.
