Exclusive: Former TPG Growth adviser Anjali Bansal joins Delhivery board

29 November, 2017

Anjali Bansal, former senior adviser and managing director at TPG Growth, the growth equity investment platform of private equity firm TPG, has joined the board of e-commerce logistics firm Delhivery Pvt. Ltd, a person privy to the development told VCCircle.

Bansal, who has joined Delhivery as an additional director, was appointed earlier this month.
E-mail queries sent to Delhivery CEO Sahil Barua and Bansal seeking confirmation did not immediately elicit a response.

A computer science engineer by qualification, Bansal started off her career with a brief stint at Indian Space Research Organisation. She later majored in international finance and business from Columbia University, following which she joined consulting firm McKinsey in New York. Bansal also launched the India operations of global executive search firm Spencer Stuart.

In July 2015, TPG Growth hired Bansal as partner and managing director to look after human capital-related needs of its portfolio firms in Asia and Africa. She moved into a senior advisory role at the firm last year.

She quit TPG Growth in March this year.

Besides Delhivery, Bansal sits on the boards of Tata Power Company Ltd, Voltas Ltd, Glaxosmithkline Pharma, Bata India and Bombay Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

VCCircle reported last month that William Tang, chairman of China-based Fosun Capital Investment & Management Co. Ltd, had joined Delhivery’s board in September. A few months ago, Delhivery had secured $30 million (Rs 200 crore) from Fosun.

Delhivery is one of the best-funded logistics startups in India, having raised a total of over $250 million from the likes of Fosun, Tiger Global, Carlyle Group, Nexus Venture Partners, Multiples Equity and Times Internet.

Founded in 2011 by Barua, Mohit Tandon, Suraj Saharan, Bhavesh Manglani and Kapil Bharati, it has grown from an on-demand delivery firm to a full-fledged logistics services provider. Its services include express parcel and freight delivery, multi-channel order fulfilment, channel management and integration, and reverse logistics.

Delhivery claims that its services have been used by over 2,500 Indian e-commerce companies, 1 lakh small businesses, and 150 enterprise customers. It has operations in 950 cities, and reaches around 9,250 pin codes across India.
