Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas promotes three lawyers as partners

Indian full service law firm Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas has promoted three lawyers as partners and two as partner designates with effect from June 5, 2016, it said in a statement.

Anand Jayachandran has been promoted as partner for general corporate, Bharat Budholia as partner for competition and Hiral Motta as partner for real estate.

On the other side, it has appointed Aditya Mehta as partner designate - dispute resolution and Prerak Ved as partner designate - general corporate.

“These talented individuals across various practice areas will strengthen our bench and add great value to our firm and client servicing capabilities. This is the first batch of internal promotions after the formation of the new firm and reinforces our model,” said managing partner Cyril Shroff.

The promotions take place against the backdrop of at least 20 fee-earners at Cyril Amarchand’s Mumbai corporate practice headed by Ashwath Rau deciding to join AZB & Partners.

Of the eight partner promotions announced in April 2016, only four—Anchal Dhir, general corporate; Kranti Mohan, capital markets; Ramgovind Kuruppath, general corporate and Shruti Rajan, financial regulatory—remained at the firm.

Anu Tiwari, Dhruv Singhal and Himanshu Dodeja, who were promoted in April, are not or will not be with Cyril Amarchand anymore. Tiwari and Singhal will be joining Ashwath Rau at AZB, while Dodeja has joined private equity house Blackstone as its first India general counsel (GC).

The law firm came into existence on May 11, 2015 after its predecessor Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co was split into two entities Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas and Co and Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas and Co.
