Walmart Labs, the technology arm of United States-based multinational retail giant Walmart, has acquihired two India-based startups to strengthen its customer service systems, a report said on Tuesday.

Mint reported that Walmart Labs has acquired health-technology startup FloCare Labs India Pvt. Ltd and business-to-business wholesale trading platform BigTrade Infosystems Pvt. Ltd for undisclosed sums.

While FloCare seeks to organise healthcare services for both patients and clinicians, BigTrade’s platform provides solutions that allow businesses to simplify buying and selling.

FloCare’s Karthik G, Piyush Madan and Varsha Patil, who were part of the core engineering team, have joined Walmart Labs’ customer technology team to work in the health and wellness space. BigTrade co-founders Sunil Soni and Kiran Lingam have joined Walmart Labs’ supply chain technology team, Mint said.

Walmart Labs India centre head and vice-president of technology Hari Vasudev said the teams from the two startups would strengthen the group’s omni-channel customer experience capabilities.

Queries to Walmart Labs did not get a response till the time of publication.

With offices in Bengaluru and California’s Palo Alto, FloCare helps healthcare providers become more effective and efficient. According to LinkedIn, the company’s technology and products allow the elderly to access affordable and scalable healthcare services. Founded by former Google employees, the startup has been backed by venture capital firm Accel.

Bengaluru-based BigTrade says its mission is to simplify the buying and selling processes for businesses. According to its website, the National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom)-incubated firm’s platform allows businesses to connect with various manufacturers and sellers, as well as negotiate and transact. It also allows sellers to promote their products to relevant businesses.

Walmart Labs

Walmart Labs, in India, works out of Bengaluru and operates as the idea incubator for Walmart.

The acquihires of the two startups comes after the acquisition of Bengaluru-based data annotation startup Dataturks in February. Founded by former Flipkart executives, Dataturks’ software-as-a-service tool enables teams to annotate image and text data using machine learning.

Walmart Labs absorbed the entire team of Int.ai, a machine learning startup which created a revenue intelligence platform for subscription and e-commerce companies. In September last year, Walmart Labs acqui-hired micro-app startup Appsfly.
