VCCEdge has released its Monthly Deal Update for May 2011.
Highlights -
Private Equity:
- Private Equity investments in May 2011 reached $1,311 million from 45 deals.
- Growth capital/late stage deals went up 27% from 22 in May 2010 to 28 in May 2011.
- The median deal amount went up 2.8x to $14 million compared to May 2010.
- The average deal value nearly doubled from $20 million to $39 million during the same period.
- Private equity deals under $50 million accounted for 83% of total deal volume.
- Big-ticket deals ($100m and above) accounted for over 60% of the total capital invested during the month.
- Private Equity Exits in terms of exit value are nearly 4.5x higher compared to May 2010.
Mergers & Acquisitions:
- M&A deal value dipped from $7.05 billion in May 2010 to $4.14 billion this month.
- Compared to the same period last year, deal value dipped significantly across domestic (52.38%) and inbound (67.72%) deals.
- The median deal size increased from $20 million to $25 million.
- The average deal value slipped to $137 million in May 2011 from $191 million in May 2010.
- Deals under $50 million accounted for 33.33% of total deal volume in May 2011.
