Tata Group’s privately held company Infiniti Retail Ltd, which runs an electronics retail chain under the brand Croma, has appointed Avijit Mitra as chief executive officer (CEO), according to a press release.

Mitra, who joined Infiniti Retail in 2006, has been working as chief financial officer (CFO) and was leading four teams—finance, non-merchandise procurement, legal & secretarial and business process improvement & merchandising.

Mitra started his career with Tata Global Beverages Ltd, the second-largest manufacturer of tea in the world, in 1990 where he played roles in internal audit, corporate finance, production, etc.

Subsequently, he was transferred to Indian Hotels Company Ltd which runs the Taj group of hotels and had stints in corporate finance and procurement.

Mitra is a chartered accountant by education.

Through Croma, Infiniti Retail runs one of the largest electronics retail chains in India. It launched its own label products ‘Croma Life Accessories’ in 2008 with over 200 products in its portfolio. It claims to have a market share of over 25 per cent in categories like ACs and small appliances and accessories. Croma has a total of over 6,000 products across eight categories on its website.
