Harvard Law School professor and senior lecturer Bala Dharan will share his insights on how to decipher a company's strategy and financial statements to value businesses at a two-day executive workshop organised by VCCircle Training at the Hilton, Mumbai, on December 10-11.

VCCircle Training is the corporate education arm of India's leading online financial media network VCCircle, now owned by News Corp.

The workshop is aimed at providing participants with advanced tools and know-how developed in recent years to evaluate the quality and reliability of business cash flows, measure and control business risks including litigation risk and default risk, and evaluate the value of future strategic options.

Aimed at equity research analysts, corporate financial officers, investment bankers and portfolio managers, it will not only delve into different valuation approaches but also throw insights on cash earnings and evaluating risk of bankruptcies. It will also cover minority discounting, control premiums and forecasting of cash flow techniques.

Besides his direct position at Harvard Law School, Bala Dharan is also research affiliate at MIT Sloan School of Management. A PhD and Charted Public Accountant, he also serves as managing director at Berkeley Research Group, an international business and litigation consulting firm.

Apart from holding tenure positions at several universities, he has been invited three times to the US Congress to testify on financial reporting issues, and has been a frequently invited speaker at various corporations and industry conferences.
