Darren Yeates is taking over as the chief executive officer (CEO) at GVK Hancock Coal Pty Ltd, an Australian joint venture of GVK Power & Infrastructure Ltd, a part of Infrastructure major GVK Group, as per a stock market disclosure.
GVK Hancock is developing the Alpha and Kevin's Corner projects in the Galilee Basin in Australia's Queensland state and Yeates joins at a time when the projects are at the final development stages.
Yeates has over three decades of experience in coal mining operations and previously was CEO of Rio Tinto Coal, Australia.
"I am extremely confident that Yeates' in-depth operational and project management experience will complement our existing management team and drive our Galilee Basin projects to operational reality," GVK Reddy, chairman and managing director of GVK, said.
"I look forward to working with Yeates to bring these projects through the next chapter with final operational, construction and financing arrangements coming together to enable us to bring online a new world class high quality, low ash, low sulphur, low gas thermal coal basin,” said Sanjay Reddy, vice-chairman of the company.
GVK Hancock Coal Pty Ltd is owned by GVK and Hancock Prospecting Pty Ltd.
