Sanjay Gupta, chief marketing officer at online furniture seller Urban Ladder, is likely to join cab-hailing company Uber as marketing head for India, people close to the development told VCCircle. Gupta will join Uber by next month, it is learnt.
He resigned from Urban Ladder last month amid a spate of top-level exits, financial daily Mint had reported. Gupta had joined the online furniture seller in February 2016, and helmed its marketing function for a little over a year.
When contacted by VCCircle, Gupta declined comment. An Uber spokesperson did not respond to an email query.
Prior to joining Urban Ladder, Gupta was head marketing – wellness & youth at fast-moving consumer goods company Marico, where he held various positions in the marketing division over the years. He also worked at IT company Accenture in the past.
Early this year, Uber hired former Tata group executive and CEO of BSE Ltd Madhu Kannan as chief business officer for India and emerging markets.
Uber, which is locked in a fierce contest with homegrown Ola for market leadership, has aggressive hiring plans and is strengthening its senior leadership in the country. It had hired former journalist Shweta Rajpal Kohli as head of policy and government affairs in September last year.
