The decade-long journey of the goods and services tax

India's Parliament passed on Wednesday the goods and services tax (GST) bill that will subsume all other indirect taxes. First conceptualised in 2006 and dubbed as the biggest tax reform since Independence, GST required a constitution amendment. While the Lok Sabha had passed the bill earlier, the Rajya Sabha cleared it today. Here’s a quick look at what happened over the years.
