Bengaluru based Vestido E-Tailoring Services Pvt Ltd that operates customised e-tailoring service provider Urban Tailor has received an undisclosed amount in seed investment from Unitus Seed Fund, it said in a statement.

BS Nagesh, founder of TRRAIN (Trust for Retailers and Retail Associates of India) and former managing director of Shoppers Stop also participated in this investment round, it said.

T Vasudevan, co-founder and CEO of Urban Tailor told Techcircle.in that the funds will be used for scaling up its Bangalore operations and for expansion into other key geographies.

“With this investment, we want to focus on building tailor capacity to undertake more orders/day, innovate on our service offerings such as on-demand alterations and expanding to more cities,” Vasudevan said in the statement.

“The company's product platform that dynamically manages supply, demand and quality of service in real-time is poised to bridge the gap for quality tailored clothing at an affordable price, paving the way for e-tailoring to become a preferred choice”, said Dave Richards, co-founder and managing partner of Unitus Seed Fund.

Founded in March 2015 by Vasudevan, Lavanya Venkatraman and Ashish Singhal, Urban Tailor provides online tailoring services to women. Once a customer chooses the style and pattern and places an order online, the pick-up service collects the fabric and measurement garment from the customer’s doorstep. Subsequently, the  customisation requirements are confirmed with the customer and the package is sent for tailoring. After a quality check, the final product is delivered to the customer. According to Urban Tailor, the entire process from ordering to delivery takes place within 10 days and services start a price point of Rs 400.

Currently, the startup offers this service for stitching blouse, kurta, bottoms and salwar suit. Urban Tailor also offers an at-home alteration service for both men and woman where a tailor can be booked for Rs 100.

“Since January, we have been registering a 40% month-on-month growth and have achieved positive unit economics,” Vasudevan told Techcircle without divulging details. According to Vasuedevan, the company has seen a strong growth in the business with high repeat customer usage.

Urban Tailor, which is currently present only in Bangalore, has served around 20,000 customers  since inception, of which repeat customers account for around 50-60% of the total customer count. The company aims to enter other cities by the end of this year. However, Vasudevan did not divulge details on the expansion.
