Temasek Holdings Advisors India has opened an office in Chennai in a bid to expand its India operations. The Singapore state investor started its India operations in 2004 with an office in Mumbai.
The Chennai office represents a strategic geographical diversification to focus on the large South India market, Temasek said in a release. R. Venkatesh, Director of Temasek Holdings Advisors India, will be heading the Chennai unit.
Temasek will be the third PE fund to have an office in Chennai. Peepul Capital and TVS Capital Funds are already headquartered out of the city.
"We already have a strong and diverse portfolio of investments but we believe the South presents a large growth market with a substantial investment potential. Chennai, being the economic hub of the South provides the ideal base for us to launch our southern operations,” said Manish Kejriwal, Senior Managing Director and Country Head, Temasek Holdings Advisors India.
Manufacturing, infrastructure and consumer oriented sectors performing exceptionally well and these would be our key focus areas, said R Venkatesh.
Temasek has offices in China, India, Vietnam, Brazil and Mexico and has $134 billion under its management. The firm recently witnessed a change of guard with Ho Ching stepping down as the Chief Executive and former CEO of BHP Billiton Chip Goodyear replacing her.
