Reliance Jio’s impact, falling data cost key takeaways from Mary Meeker’s report

The annual ‘Internet Trends’ report by Mary Meeker, general partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, opens up a plethora of data-backed findings on a range of topics around internet usage in India

According to the 2017 Internet Trends Report, close to 80% of users in the country access internet on their mobile phones.

India has a steadily increasing the internet user base that is currently pegged at 355 million, thanks to cheaper data plans and faster access, the study found.

The arrival of Reliance Jio has brought down data prices 48% over last year, according to the report.

Notably, the country witnessed more than six billion app downloads from Google Play Store between 2014 and 2016, overtaking the US to be ranked number one in this regard. During the same period, Indians spend nearly 150 billion hours on Android phones, the most by any nations.
