Delhi-headquartered intellectual property firm Anand & Anand has decided to merge its Mumbai office with Priyanka Khimani-promoted boutique media and entertainment law firm Khimani & Associates.

The merged entity, which will start operations from 1 July, will be known as Anand and Anand & Khimani in Mumbai. Anand & Anand will retain its name in all other locations.

Anand and Anand has 320 professionals, including lawyers, engineers and consultants, across four offices – Delhi, Noida, Chennai and Mumbai. Khimani & Associates, which was launched about three years ago, has eight lawyers in its Mumbai office.

“We clicked instantly because of the clear synergy between Priyanka’s firm and ours,” said Pravin Anand, managing partner, Anand and Anand in a press statement. “We see tremendous scope to improve service delivery to clients.”

Priyanka Khimani echoed similar views, saying “It just felt like the right move, at the right time. We share a common, grand vision for the Mumbai practice and its growth, and our combined resources and strengths will help us achieve it.”

“It is great to finally see two entities with diverse backgrounds coming together to embark on a new professional expedition as a joint entity,” said Bithika Anand, founder Legal League Consulting, the adviser for the merger.

This was the second merger within a week that saw large Delhi-based firms merging with smaller Mumbai-based firms. Earlier, full service law firm Hammurabi & Solomon had decided to merge Brahmand Lexis with itself.

However, the Anand and Khimani merger is unique, given that a five-decade-old law firm has decided to merge with a three-year-old firm.
