Law firm Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A. Shroff & Co has promoted 13 lawyers as partners across its Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore offices.

In line with its declared growth objectives of bringing on board a thousand lawyers by its 100th anniversary in 2017, the firm has promoted six to partnership in Delhi, six in Mumbai and one in Bangalore. Currently, the firm has 550 lawyers who are offering legal services across its offices in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai and Ahmedabad.

Five of the elevated lawyers are in corporate practice area while three are in competition practice and the other three are in disputes. Another two specialise in intellectual property and patents & capital markets. The law firm has now 68 partners including the new additions.

The corporate team of the firm includes Amita Choudary, Ipsita Dutta, Aysswarya Murthy, Rashmi Pradeep and Vidyut Gulati from Mumbai office. Amita, Ipsita and Aysswarya joined the firm in 2005. Amita is a corporate lawyer and advises in corporate restructuring and joint ventures while Aysswarya is a corporate M&A lawyer with a sectoral focus on financial services. Ipsita is a specialist in the financial regulatory space.

Vidyut has 10 years of experience and she has been with the firm since 2006 as a lateral appointment before the recent elevation to partnership. In the Bangalore office, Rashmi Pradeep from the corporate team has been promoted to partnership. A corporate lawyer, she joined the firm way back in 2003.

Delhi principal associates Naval Chopra and Shweta Shroff Chopra have also been promoted as partners. Both are well-recognised competition lawyers who have significantly contributed to the Band-1 competition practice of the firm. Nisha Uberoi is also promoted as a partner for competition practice. She joined the firm in 2002 and has nine years of experience in the legal profession. Nisha has done her masters in Competition Law and will develop the firm’s competition practice in Mumbai and the southern offices in Bangalore.

The firm has also promoted Ruchi Mahajan, Jasleen Oberoi and Indranil Deshmukh to partnership for disputes resolution. Both Ruchi and Jasleen have 12 years of experience while Ruchi has been working at the firm’s Delhi office for nine years. Deshmukh joined the law firm in 2003 and focuses on Mumbai litigation. He will now help develop the firm’s litigation practices across Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai.

Nitin Masilamani (based in Delhi) and Gaurav Gupte (in Mumbai) are also promoted as partners in intellectual property & patents and capital markets team, respectively. Masilamani joined the firm in 2002 and has been part of Amarchand’s patent practice since its inception. With his promotion, the IP practice is poised to enhance its footprint nationally and internationally. Gupte joined the firm in 2006.

“All candidates have been selected after several rigorous rounds of evaluation by the managing partners and the firm’s management committee. The move also reflects the ‘2 wheels of the bicycle’ concept through promotion of both family and non-family talents,” said Shardul Shroff, managing partner of the firm.
