Indian Angel Network (IAN) has invested $0.5 million in Chennai-based StayZilla.com, a hotel booking site which offers value-stays in any district (hence the word Zilla, which means district in Hindi) across the country, through an inventory of 3,751 hotels.
The investment will enable StayZilla to expand its network of properties, upgrade its technology platform and build its foundation for a scalable business. With this investment, IAN has spread its footprint to Chennai.
IAN investor Ravi Krishnappa, who led the investment in StayZilla, said, “StayZilla’s technology is unique and makes a differentiated product offering. It has an excellent team who understands the nuances of the market and has developed strong relationships with hotels.”
The company was founded by Yogendra Vasupal in 2005 and was earlier known as Inasra.com. But it was rebranded as StayZilla in 2010. Unlike popular OTAs like MakeMyTrip and Yatra which offer both ticket booking and hotel reservation, StayZilla solely focuses solely on room bookings. The site currently offers accommodation in more than 3,751 hotels in 448 cities in India. StayZilla has a wide range of options to suit every pocket and the hotel rooms can cost you anywhere between Rs 250 and Rs 60, 000.
A number of deals are also available on the site, including Family Deals, Honeymoon Deals, Highflier Deals, Swing Deals and Jumbo Deals, which ensure impeccable service and personal attention. Then there are a variety of offers including NightBird Offer (customers get to spend extra nights) EarlyBird Offer (users can get bigger discounts depending on how early they make their bookings), Cash-in and Cash-out (here you are entitled to assured cash-back on every booking) and Smart Buys (it lets users book hotels at less than the usual tariffs).
Users can filter hotels on the basis of price, star ratings of hotels and other parameters like amenities (laundry, Internet, pick-up & drop, etc.), leisure options (bar, swimming pool, health club and so on), cuisine and miscellaneous facilities (like smoke detectors, elevators, etc.).
