Indian Angel Network (IAN) has made an undisclosed investment in London-based Aznog (formerly known as CalLiberate), a VoIP service provider.
From the IAN network, the funding round was led by Alok Agarwal, Harsh Hada and Vishal Khare, IAN said in a press statement.
Agarwal and Hada have joined Aznogâs board as part of the transaction.
Aznog will use the money raised to scale its infrastructure and expand the employee base.
Aznog, which is run by Aznog Technologies Ltd, allows users to make free unlimited calls to mobile/land-line numbers worldwide without having to buy credits. While the caller needs to have the Aznog app and Internet connection, the call recipient doesn't require an internet connection for accepting the call.
Aznog caters to students and young professionals in the age group of 18-30.
âAznog is a globally scalable product and itâs changing the way people make calls. The offline model is what will give it an edge over other companies,â Hada said.
The Aznog app is presently available on the Google Play Store only.
Aznog was originally founded in Nagpur three years ago but the startup relocated in July to London. Amogh Meshram and Dragos Dinu are the entrepreneurs behind the startup. While Amogh is an electrical engineer, and internet marketer, Dinu is a software engineer with experience in the telecom domain.
The Indian Angel Network (IAN) is one of the countryâs largest network of angel investors. Founded in 2005, IAN incubates about 20 startups every year. IAN last put money in Bangalore-based health food startup Jiyo Natural Pvt Ltd.
IAN made its first investment in the UK last year.
Early this year, IAN partnered with UK-based multinational specialty chemicals and sustainable technology firm Johnson Matthey to launch an incubation programme for startups in the clean technology space.
