Standard Chartered Bank has appointed Sreeram Iyer as Chief Operating Officer, India. It's a newly created position in India. Iyer, who is an insider, would be responsible for technology-related areas, operations, compliance, assurance and corporate affairs, a release said.

“Given the importance of India to the overall scheme of things at Standard Chartered, the idea is to strengthen the leadership and the top team with more hands on the deck because of the growth opportunity in the country,” Iyer said. He was earlier heading the outsourcing unit for Standard Chartered Bank, and was also the Chief Information Officer.

Iyer is coming to India from Singapore where he was the global programme director for the integration of the erstwhile American Express Bank’s consumer banking business with Standard Chartered. The bank had acquired AmEx in 2007.
