New Enterprise Associates, Inc. (NEA), a global venture capital firm, has elevated Ravi Viswanathan as General Partner, a company statement said.

Viswanathan, an ex-Goldman Sachs hand, joined NEA in 2004. His primary focus was energy, growth equity information technology investment and the firm's activities in India.

As General Partner, he will be directly responsible to the LP (limited partners or the investor group) board. He will also be entitled to the carry (earnings received from the performance of the fund).

Viswanathan's current board memberships include Availink, Deeya Energy, ISGN Technologies, Jentro Technologies, Solar Junction, Suniva, and ViXS. He also works closely with GlobalLogic, OANDA, and other companies within NEA's energy technology portfolio. Prior investments include Tele Atlas.

Before joining NEA, Viswanathan was co-head of Goldman, Sachs & Co's private equity group's technology practice.

NEA Inc also announced the promotion of Dr Frank Torti, MD, to Principal. Dr Torti joined NEA in 2007 and is focused on both private and public investing activities within the firm's healthcare practice.
