Mauj Mobile Acquires UK’s Mobango

Mauj Mobile, a  mobile content company and part of People Group , has  acquired UK-based Mobango, which claims to be the world’s largest independent mobile application and user generated content store. The financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

With the advent of 3G and availability of feature rich smart phones at low prices in India, Mauj expects consumption of data-based services to increase significantly. This deal will allow Mauj to provide its partners, in India and abroad, applications and content for their customers while further consolidating its foothold in the telecom managed services space, the company said in a press statement.

The group has three business - People Interactive, which owns Shaadi.com and real estate portal Makaan.com; People Infocom Pvt. Ltd, which owns Mauj, and People Entertainment, a media production company.

In 2006, the company raised money from WestBridge Capital Partners  (the then Seqouia Capital India), and Intel Capital.

Mobango has served over 750 million downloads and currently generates in excess of 300 million downloads per annum to their customers.
