Internet giant Google has launched Cloud AutoML which enables businesses with limited machine learning expertise to build high quality, custom artificial intelligence models and enhance products or services.

"Cloud AutoML is a simple, secure and flexible machine learning (ML) service that lets businesses and developers train custom vision models for their own use cases. To make artificial intelligence (AI) accessible to every business, entities with limited ML expertise can leverage Cloud AutoML to start building their own high-quality custom models by leveraging advanced techniques like learning2learn and transfer learning from Google. Cloud AutoML will make AI experts even more productive, advance new fields in AI and help less-skilled engineers build powerful AI systems," Google said in a statement.

The first offering from the firm’s Cloud AutoML suite is Cloud AutoML Vision which makes it easier to create custom ML models for image recognition. The service's drag-and-drop interface lets users easily upload images, train and manage models and then deploy those trained models directly on Google Cloud.

The company said enterprises could avail specific advantages by using Cloud AutoML Vision in terms of ease of use and enhanced accuracy. AutoML Vision provides a simple graphical user interface that lets businesses specify data, then turns that data into a high quality model customised for specific needs.

“At Google Cloud, our goal has been to lower the barrier of entry and make AI available to the largest possible community of developers, researchers and businesses,” said

Jia Li, head of R&D, Cloud AI and ML.

“AutoML Vision is the result of our close collaboration with the Google Brain and other Google AI teams, and is the first of several Cloud AutoML products in development that aims to make it easier for more businesses to adopt ML. While we are still at the beginning of our journey to make AI more accessible, we have been deeply inspired by what our 10,000+ customers using Cloud AI products have been able to achieve. The launch of Cloud AutoML will help even more businesses discover what’s possible through AI,” Li said.

Google said the technology is already enabling businesses such as Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media to build vision models to annotate its products with Disney characters, product categories and colours. "These annotations are being integrated into their search engine to enhance the impact on Guest experience through more relevant search results, expedited discovery and product recommendations on shopDisney," it said.
