Devendra Chawla has resigned as the chief executive officer of Future Consumer Ltd, barely six months after taking over the role at the food and fast-moving consumer goods arm of Kishore Biyani-led Future Group.
Chawla’s last working day will be 31 July, the company said in a stock-exchange filing. Sadashiv Nayak, a member of the strategic business team at Future Group, will oversee the business as the interim head.
The company didn’t specify any reason for Chawla’s exit.
Chawla was named the CEO of Future Consumer in January this year as part of a wider management rejig at the retail group.
Chawla had joined Future Group in January 2009 as the CEO for its private brands business, according to his LinkedIn profile. He previously worked at billionaire Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Retail Ltd, beverage giant Coca-Cola and Asian Paints.
He graduated in engineering from the University of Pune and is an alumnus of Symbiosis Institute of Business Management in Pune.
Future Consumer offers a range of products that include Tasty Treat biscuits and snacks, dairy and bakery products under the Nilgiris brand, Sunkist beverages and home care product CleanMate. It distributes its products through retail chains such as Future Group’s Big Bazaar, EasyDay, Heritage and Nilgiris outlets as well as Metro Cash & Carry and Tesco Star Bazaar.
