Finance minister Arun Jaitley proposed to expand government spending almost 11 per cent in 2016-17 compared with the revised estimates of 2015-16, with the biggest chunk going to meet interest payments on borrowings. He also projected tax revenue to grow at a similar pace and kept the fiscal deficit target at the previously stated level of 3.5 per cent of gross domestic product.
