Bessemer Venture Partners, a US-based investment group, has elevated Vishal Gupta as managing director of BVP India. He was the director of BVP India since 2008.
Gupta joined BVP India in 2006 as an associate and was promoted to vice president and director in 2007 and 2008 respectively, said a company statement.
As per company website, he has been closely involved with the firm’s investments in Motilal Oswal Financial Services, Shriram EPC, Sunil Hitech Engineers, and Orient Green Power, among others. Gupta also serves on the board of NetAmbit InfoSource & E-Services Pvt Ltd.
Prior to his joining Bessemer, Gupta has worked with Reliance Group, SBI Mutual Funds and DSL Software, a joint venture between HCT Tech and Deutsche Bank.
Bessemer Venture had been active in India in the last year and has picked up a 2.41% stake in IL&FS Transportation Networks Ltd (ITNL) for Rs 100 crore. It has also invested $100 million jointly with Sequoia and Citigroup Venture Capital in power generation company Ind-Barath Power Infra Ltd in 2009. The fund has over $2 billion under management globally.
The company has offices in California, New York, Massachusetts, Mumbai and Herzliya in Israel.
