Azure Power India Pvt Ltd, a company engaged in the production and distribution of solar energy, has appointed Surendra Kumar Gupta as its Chief Financial Officer. Besides providing vision and leadership for all aspects of the firm’s finance, Gupta will be a part of the executive team and will contribute to overall business management including operational and business development financing, project support and advice to the board.

Gupta has more than 30 years of experience in strategic business and financial planning, fundraising for capex and working capital, and driving IT-based ERP systems for organisations. Prior to joining Azure, he had worked with the Al-Suwaidi Group as a group CFO and focused on strategic business and financial planning, fundraising and driving IT initiatives. He also held additional responsibilities as the general manager of a manufacturing facility and looked after its overall operations.

Earlier, Gupta led the finance department of Samtel Color Ltd; worked as a vice-president (Finance) with Fenner India Ltd and was deputy general manager (Finance) at Birla Yamaha Ltd. He had managed venture capital funding and large-term debts for the Samtel group and worked to get one of the HCL group companies listed in 1984.

“Solar power generation is extremely capital intensive and a sound financial strategy is a must for successful growth of any business in this sector. While Azure has already demonstrated successful financing structures for large-scale solar power generation, I am quite excited to have Gupta on board to lead the company through its expansion stage, using the wealth of his experience in capital strategy, planning and risk management,” said Inderpreet Wadhwa, CEO of Azure Power.
