India is home to 10 unicorns—startups with a valuation of $1 billion or more. These companies started with mostly nothing and made it to an exclusive club.

Clearly, a bunch of folks struck out and risked it all to, eventually, make it big. But which colleges did they attend, and what did they study there?

VCCircle went hunting for their resumes and found that the founders of India’s most valuable startups are, unsurprisingly, mostly engineers, with more than half having graduated from the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). Among these elite schools, IIT Delhi tops the list with as many as seven of the 20 founders studying there.

Interestingly, just five of the 20 people who set up India’s top startups hold MBAs.

Apart from the IITs, the other marquee Indian schools on their resumes include the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, Delhi College of Engineering and the College of Engineering at Guindy in Tamil Nadu.

Some foreign universities that figure on the list are Harvard University, University of Pennsylvania and Washington University, St. Louis.
