TVS Capital ropes in Chakravarthi Lokapriya to lead PIPE and pre-IPO deals

Chakravarthi Lokapriya (Chakri) has joined TVS Capital Funds Ltd, the asset manager of TVS Shriram Growth Fund, as director – investments. TVS Capital Funds is actively looking at micro and small-cap opportunities in the listed company space and as a part of this strategy, Chakri will lead the PIPE and pre-IPO investments in TVS Capital, according to a company statement.

Chakri brings more than 15 years of investment expertise and was most recently a senior fund manager and vice president at Franklin Templeton India, from 2008 to 2013. Prior to that, at BNP Paribas Asset Management in London, Chakri helped grow assets under his management to over $1.7 billion from inception, as the Head of India and BRIC Equities from 2003 to 2008.

Earlier, as a founding team member and investment director at PCE Ltd in London from 1999 to 2002, Chakri focussed on making private investment in listed mid-cap growth companies. Prior to that, he was an equity analyst at JP Morgan from 1997 to 1999 in New York.

Commenting on his appointment, Gopal Srinivasan, chairman and managing director of TVS Capital, said, “Over the years, Chakri has managed funds and teams and has led equity investments over multiple economic cycles and markets. We believe that his global and domestic investing expertise will help build a platform of private equity mind set in listed equity market investing.”

D Sundaram, vice chairman and managing director of TVS Capital said, “Chakri’s structured investment approach and ability to build a strong analytical framework will be an asset to our firm.” Chakri holds an MBA from Stern School of Business, New York University.

TVS Shriram Growth Fund is a Rs 1,100 crore domestic rupee fund managed by TVS Capital. It targets investments across consumer and business services sectors such as healthcare delivery, food and agriculture, retail, education, hospitality, FMCG, restaurants, facilities management, institutional catering and security services.
