TrulyMadly has swiped right to grow in India’s nascent dating app market.

The company founded by Sachin Bhatia, Rahul Kumar and Hitesh Dhingra in 2014 claims it has 100,000 daily users and that 30 per cent of those are women.

TrulyMadly competes mainly with the US-based Tinder, which recently opened its first international office in New Delhi to tap into the Indian market where a number of other matchmaking and dating apps such as Dil Mil, Woo and iCrushiFlush have also started over the past couple of years.

Bhatia believes TrulyMadly will beat Tinder to become the most used dating app in India in 2016.

“Within the dating space, we will clearly be number one. If you just look at singles, we are already beating Tinder. But Tinder has married men on their app, so their numbers are higher. In 2016, in all aspects we will clearly forge ahead,” Bhatia said in an interview with Techcircle.in.

TrulyMadly’s core target is people in the age group of 18-26 years. It claims that a user gets four matches for every 100 swipes. It also claims that users spend almost 42 minutes daily on its app. The company employs 45 people, with 80 per cent of its team working in product and technology functions.

The company is now looking at foreign shores, particularly Southeast Asia. Bhatia says TrulyMadly is looking to launch operations in Indonesia this year.

“We think the product is finding a lot of resonance in Southeast Asia. We might look at venturing there... I think Indonesia is a big market because verification for them is a big issue. Indonesia could be the first halt that we would make. Hopefully, this year,” he adds.
