Times Group Acquires Failed Jobsite, Stake In Online Book Store

Internet job portal Timesjobs.com has acquired Gurgaon-based CyberMedia Careers, which is a part of the media house CyberMedia. TimesJobs has acquired the resume database and also the URL, which is now redirected to Timesjobs.com now. The latter has been on the block for a while after the portal failed to take off in technology recruting. Besides, its joint venture partner Dice had parted ways with CyberMedia sometime this year.

CyberMedia Careers has about 700,000 resumes. The deal size is not known, however, industry sources put the deal at about $500,000 or Rs 2 crore. The resumes are priced according to its freshness and can be in the range of Rs 25 to Rs 100 apiece. CyberMedia Careers is believed to have approached other industry players too, finally TimesJobs picked up the company.

In another deal by Bennett, Coleman & Co. Ltd (BCCL) entity, Times Internet Ltd, acquired a 50 per cent stake in online bookstore A1Books.co.in. The Stake has been picked up in the Indian entity of US-based Webnotions, which is called Webnotions Books India Pvt Ltd. A1Books claims to be a platform to buy and sell books from Indian and International publishers and sellers under one roof. It boasts over 1 million titles from publishers and distributors.

These deals are a part of long list of deals done by BCCL in the online space. Only last week, BCCL picked up a stake in Naaptol Online Shopping Pvt Ltd, owner of the shopping comparison portal naaptol.com. It has also acquired stakes in online tax filing website TaxShax.com, TravelChaCha.com, HolidayIQ.com and TravelMasti.com.
