In the 33rd episode of TC Show Off, a weekly show that provides startups a platform to showcase their businesses, KS Bhatia, founder and CEO, Pumpkart takes through his journey of organizing the water pump industry by selling them online.
Bhatia seeks to tap the highly unorganised market pegged at Rs 25000 crore (rough industry estimates) riding high on the growing penetration of internet in small towns and rural areas.
Interestingly, the startup sells products to shopkeepers as well as direct consumers. Farmers are its prominent customers and it plans to tap the rural market in a big way.
Based out of Chandigarh, it also offers EMI options to ensure easy availability of products to farmers.
The sector is currently largely addressed by unorganised offline players. According to Bhatia, the country has over 4000 manufacturers of water pumps. “My target is to bring them on board and create a marketplace,” he said.
