Tata Motors hires Maruti COO Mayank Pareek to head passenger vehicle unit

Tata Motors Ltd, the country's largest automobile company, has hired Mayank Pareek from Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, as passenger vehicle business unit, as per a stock market disclosure. His appointment will be effective from Oct 1, 2014.

Pareek will take the role of Ranjit Yadav, who will now become the head of international business for passenger & commercial vehicles.

He is joining from Maruti Suzuki where he last served as chief operating officer (COO) and headed the marketing and sales vertical. He was also member of Maruti's management committee, and a permanent invitee to its board.

Pareek started his career with BHEL and has a total of over three decades of experience. After BHEL, he joined Maruti Udyog in 1991. Initially, he was responsible for sales in the north region and subsequently managed dealer development. During his tenure with Maruti, he also led new strategic initiatives like leasing, financing and used car business.

Pareek holds a BE degree from Indian Institute of Technology, BHU and is an MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore.
