Swiss cabling firm R&M acquires Bangalore-based Advanced Fiber Systems

Swiss cabling specialist Reichle & De-Massari (R&M) has acquired the business activities and operating assets of Bangalore-based fiber-optic products maker Advanced Fiber Systems (AFS) for an undisclosed amount.

As a part of the deal, the management and employees of AFS will be transferred to R&M in India. Post this, the number of R&M employees will increase to over 50.

The acquisition will help R&M strengthen its existing structured cabling business in India and address new strategic market segments.

"This acquisition is a key milestone to expand our business in India. We can now actively participate in the growing fibre-optic network deployments, fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) roll-outs and data centre projects," said Laurent Amestoy, executive VP of R&M Asia-Pacific.

"AFS has been a certified assembly partner of R&M for many years; so the quality and innovation in fibre optic solutions will continue," said Gaurav Ahluwalia, MD of R&M.

R&M, which began its operations in India in 2006, offers cabling solutions for Cat. 5e, Cat.6 and Cat.6A systems. For fibre-optic cabling, it offers a complete range of cables and components for single-mode (OS1, OS2) and multi-mode (OM3, OM4) fibre optic systems.

"Over the last 10 years, we have built excellent customer relationships through our expertise in fiber-optic technology and the ability to offer customised solutions. We are thrilled to become a part of the R&M's global organisation. With R&M's worldwide expertise and our local knowledge, we will be able to offer new solutions with added value to our customers," said Vijay Kumar, director of AFS.

Founded in 2002, AFS is a telecom equipment manufacturing firm which has its production facility in Bangalore. The firm aims to become an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) with the help of its 8,000 sq ft assembly line for FMS, racks, closures and cable assembly.
