21 January, 2015

Mumbai-based Trumplab Edusolutions Pvt Ltd, the company behind communication app for schools Knit, has raised an undisclosed amount from a group of angel investors including Rohit Jain of Mexus Education and Amit Rambhia of Vardhaman Technologies, according to a top executive of the company.

The company has diluted about 10 per cent stake as part of the funding.

“We will use the funds to increase its presence across platforms (launch iOS, Windows version), upgrade technology and marketing,” said Jaideep Poonia, co-founder, Trumplab Edusolutions.

The company was founded last year by Poonia, Dhanesh Kumar, Vikas Chahar and Shital Godara who are currently in the last year of computer science engineering at IIT-Bombay. Poonia had also worked with Housing.com for over a year.

Knit is an Android app for communication between teachers and students in text and photographs that allows teachers to send one-way reminders, announcements, homework, activity photos directly to the parents on their phone.

How it works?

After downloading Knit on the smartphone, the teacher can create a classroom and gets a unique class code which she/he shares with parents. Parents can subscribe to the classroom with the help of the code. Parents who don’t use smartphone or Android phone can subscribe via SMS by sending unique class code to 9243000080.

The company says its app is being used in five schools and is currently transmitting close to 10,000 messages every day. Presently, it is free to use.

The venture is being incubated at the Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SINE), IIT Bombay.
