Share buybacks by India Inc hit record high in 2016

With the Sensex returning a meagre 2% during calendar year 2016 and the government introducing additional levy on dividend income, several Indian companies took the share buyback route last year to reward shareholders. Share buybacks also paint a positive picture to investors, especially during unfavourable times, as they indicate the management’s confidence in the business.
