Paul Capital, a leading global investment firm focused on the private equity secondary market, recently ramped up its India team by appointing two as regional sourcing agents for India. Both the agents will be responsible for sourcing and evaluating secondary private equity transactions in India. This only goes on to show how serious the secondary market investor is about India, who has committed $50 million here and is looking at closing a few more transactions. Jason Sambanju, recenly promoted as Co-Head of Paul Capital's Asian operations, talks about the fast-evolving private equity secondaries market in India and how Paul Capital has played a key role there. Based in Hong Kong, his responsibilities include sourcing, executing and closing secondary private equity transactions, as well as the general development of Paul Capital's business across the region. Sambanju says that it is unfair to lay everything completely on the GPs if something goes wrong in a fund, adding that the burden of poor returns is both on the GPs and the LPs. In an exclusive interview with VCCircle, Sambanju talks about the opportunities, quality of Indian GPs and the valuations in the Indian private equity secondaries market.
