PE-backed Nova Medical Acquires Chennai-based Helios Hospitals

Bangalore-based Nova Medical Centers Pvt Ltd has entered the healthcare market in Chennai by acquiring Helios Hospitals for an undisclosed sum, the company has said in a statement. Nova has also commenced work in Alwarpet (Chennai) to set up a super-specialty, short-stay surgical facility by June 2012 and commissioned a multi-specialty polyclinic in Adyar.

Helios Hospitals in Velachery and the satellite clinic for consultation and diagnostics, located in Adyar, will be run under the supervision of orthopaedic surgeon Nandkumar Sundaram.

“We have aggressive expansion plans, both nationally and globally, and are extremely pleased to announce our entry in Chennai,” Suresh Soni, CEO & chairman of Nova Medical, commented on the acquisition.

“Helios is a trusted healthcare institution in Chennai and our association with Nova will help us extend our services into more areas. Nova’s expertise in the field of ambulatory surgeries will help us strengthen our position and offer new services to the people in Chennai,” said Sundaram.

Incorporated in 2009 by New York-based private equity firm GTI Group and Dr Mahesh Reddy, Nova Medical Centers develops and manages day surgical centres primarily in India. Nova has now six fully functional centres, with four additional centres set to be operational by March 2012. The company has functional and operational nursing homes in Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Coimbatore, Delhi, and Pune. The Nova Group is also gearing up to set up 25 centres across India and the Middle East by March 2013.
