Nomura Appoints Kotak Banker As Equity Capital Markets Head

Japanese financial services major Nomura has appointed former Kotak Mahindra Capital banker Indraneil Borkakoty as Head of Equity Capital Markets (ECM), India. Borkakoty will now report to Nipun Goel, Head of Investment Banking for India, and Mark Williams, Head of ECM for Asia ex-Japan.

Borkakoty headed ECM till recently at Kotak Mahindra Capital, where he spent five years. He also has 15 years of work experience across firms like ICICI Securities, KPMG, and Lazard.

"Indraneil brings invaluable experience and expertise. This will further strengthen Nomura's presence and continued build-out in India as a leading Asia-based global investment bank," said Goel.

"This appointment is crucial to our strategy of building the leading ECM franchise in Asia. India accounted for 16% of the total ECM volume in Asia ex-Japan in the first half of this year and is an important market for our ECM business," said Williams.
