Nomura Appoints Birendra Agarwal As MD of Powai Office

Japanese investment bank Nomura Holdings has appointed Birendra Agarwal as Managing Director and Chief Information Officer for Nomura Services, India (Powai). Agarwal will report to Simon Lucocq, Global & Asia Pacific Wholesale CIO and locally to R. K. Rangan, President and CEO of Nomura Services, India.

Nomura had acquired the Asia, including India operations, of Lehman Brothers after the Wall Street bank went bankrupt last year. This included Lehman's backoffice in Mumbai.

Agarwal was till recently was managing Envision Consultants, an outsourcing and offshore advisory firm. He has also worked at Citigroup, where he was responsible for building the technology division across various financial verticals. Agarwal holds a B.Tech from IIT, Mumbai and an M.S. from the University of Kentucky.

Agarwal will now handle the technology support  across global business units such as equities, fixed income and investment banking Nomura Services. It employs more than 2,300 people at its Powai office, of which nearly 1,000 are IT specialists and securities analysts.
