Nexus Appoints Former WNS COO As MD

Venture capital firm Nexus Venture Partners has hired the chief operating officer of WNS Holdings, one of of the largest business process outsourcing (BPO) in India, as a managing director. Anup Gupta, 38, will be based out of the Mumbai office of Nexus. Gupta would be involved in selecting new investments as well as working closely with portfolio companies at Nexus, which has $320 million under management across two funds. He will lead Nexus activities in business and consumer services, according to a release.

Gupta would become the second senior WNS executive to quit and join private equity/venture capital firm in recent times. Neeraj Bhargava, who was till last year CEO of WNS, left to co-found private equity firm Steer Capital.

Gupta, who served an earlier stint as a VC with eVentures India, was responsible for global operations comprising over 20,000 employees across 7 countries at WNS during his 8 year tenure.

Gupta was a Principal with eVentures along with Sandeep Singhal, a co-founder of Nexus. Prior to eVentures, Gupta was a Management Consultant at Booz & Company in Mumbai. Gupta graduated at the top of his classes from both Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta and IIT

Kharagpur.

"Anup is an entrepreneurial leader who has the rare combination of experience in working in start-up environments and scaling up and operating a public listed company. He will bring a unique perspective to entrepreneurs who are planning to build market leading companies," said Naren Gupta, co-founder of Nexus.
