Manish Chokhani to head TPG Growth India

Manish Chokhani, a leading capital markers investor and former top honcho of Axis Capital Ltd, has been appointed as chairman of TPG Growth India.

Chokhani will lead growth investments for the top global private equity fund in India and Southeast Asia, according to a report in The Economic Times.

Chokhani was managing director and chief executive officer of Axis Capital until November 2013, which was running the investment banking and the institutional equities business of the bank.

Axis Capital was formed after Axis Bank acquired domestic investment bank and institutional broker Enam Securities in a Rs 1,400-crore deal in 2012. 

Chokhani was heading Enam Securities as MD and CEO.

In India, TPG makes large ($100 million plus) late-stage private equity deals through TPG Capital and relatively mid-sized ($75 million range) deals through TPG Growth.

TPG Capital in India is headed by Punit Bhatia, while TPG Growth was looked after by Varun Kapur till mid-last year.

Amol Jain, another top MD of TPG Growth in India, had recently quit the firm.

Chokhani is a well-recognised face in the Indian investment banking and capital market circles.
