The 48-million user-base LinkedIn, a US-based networking site for professionals, is planning to hire a country head for India, one of its fastest growing markets.

“The company is looking for right candidate,” said a Business Standard report, quoting LinkedIn vice-president (products) Dipchand Nishar.

Why India is hot for LinkedIn is evident in these stats: LinkedIn has over 2.5 million users in India, growing at a pace of 180% year-on-year. It has surpassed the UK in terms of the total number of users, largely male IT executives.

The report said, people in India spent a lot of time networking and were focussed on career growth, a demographic trend the networking site is looking to cash in on.

Globally, LinkedIn offers mobile-based applications too. The company is looking at similar applications for the Indian market and is in talks with several mobile phone firms such as Nokia for a tieup. The potential for such applications is huge in India, said the report, quoting Nishar.
