LinkedIn, the US-based professional networking site with a strong membership in India, has roped in Hari V Krishnan, as country manager for India. Krishnan was country head of Myspace in India, in his previous assignment.
At LinkedIn, Krishnan will be responsible to grow the company’s diverse business model comprising user subscriptions, advertising sales and enterprise software licensing for the Indian market, said a company statement. He will also be looking at areas like user engagement, strategic partnerships, marketing and general operations in the near term.
Going by his experience in online businesses such as Travelguru and Yahoo India, Krishnan should find himself in familiar terrain.
Jeff Weiner, CEO, LinkedIn stated that India is one of company’s fastest growing market and they see exciting opportunities as well. Out of over 52 million members globally, India offers around 3.4 million members in LinkedIn’s kitty. “Hari’s addition to the LinkedIn team will not only help us better serve our membership and customers on a local basis, but will also help accelerate our goal to connect the world’s professionals,” said Weiner.
Prior to his joining in LinkedIn, Krishnan was country head for MySpace in India and looked after overall management of the company. He also worked in Travelguru, Yahoo! India and Cisco.
LinkedIn claims that its user base in India is growing at approximately 70,000 per week. Currently, it has over 60 advertisers in India, which include brands such as General Motors, Microsoft, Reuters and Tanishq.
